1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
A psalm of David.
Psalm 23 from the New International Version.
This Psalm has always been a source of comfort for me. As the first week of the new year ends and I “see” all the work there is to do, I remember this passage from the Bible. I imagine David sitting somewhere and composing this beautiful piece with a life and heart that has seen much yet trusted and loved God more than anything else. I am reminded that I am not alone and that many have gone before me on a similar and some even a darker path but have sought and found shelter in the wonderful loving arms of our Father.
As we end this first week, my prayer for you is that you will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, secure in the knowledge that though the world may be crazy we have a God who keeps us safe in his strong hands.
Have a blessed weekend ahead and may your 2013 be filled with the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
