It’s my Son-Man’s birthday today.
How time has flown. I was looking for his pictures to share with this post. Of course, you can’t help taking a trip down memory lane when you do that.
I remember when we were choosing a name for him. I found out I was going to have a baby boy about 4 or 5 months into the pregnancy. My doctor had just acquired a fancy machine with clearer ultrasound images and we saw the “turtle with the head” that proved he was a boy.
Naturally, my Beloved was excited. He insisted that my future Son-Man be named after him. I was already toying with a name at that time in case the baby was a boy and I was thinking of giving my future son a two-part name. However, my choice at that time didn’t sound too nice with my Beloved’s name. I agreed to have our baby named in “part” after his father. I’ve seen similar cases with other families. I don’t know why fathers do it. Is it a shot at immortality? Or just plain pride in his name and his soon-to-be-born Son? Come to think of it, even mothers do it with their own names and their baby girls…
Whatever the reason, my Son-Man has a good, strong, manly name. On my mother’s side of the family it is considered “bad luck” to have a “Junior” or “Senior”. Also, my parents come from devout Roman Catholic families. Out of respect for family tradition, I decided to add a name from the Bible that “blended” with his father’s name.
So, today, my Son-Man celebrates his birthday. On this special day, I wish him all the happiness that this day can bring. I pray that he will grow up to be strong, hardworking and loving like his father. I also pray that he will have the same courage and desire to serve God all the days of his life as did the Biblical prophet he was named after.
Happy Birth-day my darling Son!
